My Birthday and an Edible Fruit Arrangement

Yesterday, I turned 35.  Yep, only five more years until I hit the BIG 40! I had a fabulous birthday, my husband and children took me out to one of my favorite sushi restaurants and gave me a ton of beautiful winter clothes. With my birthday smack in the middle of the holiday dessert coma, I decided this year to have a cake that was healthy, but also really yummy.  I usually make my family’s birthday cakes because we are gluten free.  I finally decided to make a cake out of fruit like the company Edible Arrangements and it turned out better than I expected.  The great thing is if I can do this so can you and it is not that hard to do.  If you want a edible fruit arrangement that makes people go WOW and tastes out of this world then you have come to the right place.

Items Needed for an Edible Fruit Arrangement:

  • Toothpicks (they are the glue of your cake)
  • Styrofoam I use a cone and a wreath circle Styrofoam, but you could use square pieces and build tiers it is really up to you how you create your edible fruit arrangement.
  • My green Styrofoam shed so I had to cover it with plastic wrap first before adding fruit or else you would not be able to eat that fruit.
  • Skewer Sticks if you are putting separate pieces together like I did.

How To Make Your Edible Fruit Arrangement:

  • Take your Styrofoam pieces and use your skewer sticks and poke them through each piece making them stable.
  • Add any plastic wrap you will need and then start using your tooth picks and adding fruit.

Tips and Tricks I learned:

  • It helps if you put the tooth pick on the Styrofoam first and then poke your fruit last so you do not ruin or smash your fruit pieces.
  • If using small pieces of fruit you can break your tooth picks in half to save on using so many.
  • Fruit that works well are melons, berries, I used kiwis and a star fruit because of the time of year, but you can do anything you want.
  • I used Nutella on some of the strawberries, but you could dip lots of your fruit in chocolates.
  • You could make a cake like this and then use a Scentsy Fun Fondue at your party to let people dip their own fruit.

An edible fruit arrangement is simple, fun and it was a HUGE hit with my family.  My kids were in love with it and to be honest so was I.  It was so pretty I cannot believe I made it myself.  The next time you want a healthy cake remember it does not always have to include frosting and flour.
