What is Meal Prep?

by Amee 4 Comments

Today is day four of my 31 days of Clean Eating, Meal Planning, and Prep series.  Meal prep goes hand in hand with meal planning which I wrote about yesterday.

It is where you take the meals you planned for your week and you prep as much stuff ahead as you can.

There is no right or wrong way of doing meal prep, but there are a number of ways you can go about it.

Meal preparation ensures that on those busy nights you won’t be tempted to each junk or order in that pizza or Chinese food.

What is Meal Prep?

When it comes to meal prep many people think you have to eat the same boring rice, chicken and a vegetable, but this is not so.

Think about what you like to eat, food is something we should enjoy not dread.  It should taste good!

Many people when meal prepping make freezer meals that you can pop into your crock pot to cook while you are at work.

They also can cut up veggies and have ready to put into soups or steam right before dinner.

People may only prep say a meal such as dinner because their nights are crazy with homework, dance classes and your long nights at the office.

31 Days of Clean Eating, Meal Planning & Prep

Meal prep also ensures you eat healthier and in my experience it saves you money.

Many people buy meal prep containers that divide up their food, or canning jars for salads, and are easily stored.

I tend to only prep dinners and breakfast, and if there are leftovers they usually become the next days lunch.

I only prep about three days worth of meals because I like my meals fresher and I tend to not do freezer meals.

The key to prep is to not get overwhelmed.

If you are a beginner  only prep the meal you need the most help with such as dinner and go from there.

I plan to give more tips and tricks later on in this series and tomorrow I am going to talk about how to get started with clean eating.

This is a journey and a process and one that does not happen over night.

If you meal prep for your family what ways have you noticed it helps you?
